A Little Winter Fun

Monday, December 22, 2014

I recently took a photography class offered through the local community recreation center. It was a lot of fun and it gave me an opportunity to shoot some new scenes. I also got to play with the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. These were taken on the east side of Utah Lake as the sun was setting.

Trying to capture the calm lake and the gorgeous colors proved an exciting challenge.

It got rather chilly as the sun went down, but it was worth it!

I love the depth in this one. Out of the hundred or so I look this was one of my favorites!

Provo River Trail - Fun Times

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Fall is a beautiful time in Provo. The trees turn marvelous shades and there is something magical about walking on crunchy leaves in the evening with a camera in hand. I just have to say that my husband is a very loving and patient man even when he's not interested in posing for my pictures. He also knows some really good picture spots. Seriously who knew that there was a perfect photo opportunity behind the theater?

My husband and I were driving through the canyons today. They were full of vibrant colors. The view was breathtaking!

Introducing Me

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

My name is Katherine Poulson.

For those of you who have never met me, and even for those of you who think you know me, I am a photographer, a writer, a wife, and occasionally an extremely spontaneous person. I've dabbled in many artsy things including ceramics, cooking, music, scrap booking, and much more. Some activities I love, and somewell they only happen every so often in my busy life.

Despite my constant search for a hobby, three things remain constant in my life:
  1. I love my family and friends.
  2. I have a love and testimony of my faith.
  3. I seek new and exciting things.
Great joy comes through having close family and friends. Even greater joy is the opportunity to share some of the greatest and even the hardest of times with them. Those moments I’ve captured in photos (and even those I haven’t managed to capture) have made me who I am.

Call me cheesy, but the faith and love I have for Christ keep me going.

I always like to try new things. Sometimes this has gotten me in trouble, and sometimes it has lead to the most rewarding and exhilarating experiences. Taking chances and being willing to give it your all
whether in photography or in life  often makes the difference between obligation and enjoyment.

I love photography because it allows me to capture emotion and those spontaneous moments that won't ever be the same, no matter how hard we try to recreate them. Photography opens a portal to the past and allows our minds to hold something more tangible than just a fond memory.

“Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.”
